With her 42.65 metres overall length, the Mondomarine Displacement “Kimberly II” is the 48th yacht – and also the third in size up today – boasting the logo by the Shipyard related to Gruppo Mondo of Gallo D’Alba.
Built with steel hull and aluminium superstructure, Kimberly II is a full project by the Genova based Studio Ruggiero at command of the Owner Spyros Metaxa, whose name is bound to the one of the finest and most well-known greek brandy.
Engined by a couple of CAT 3508B each of 1,500 hp, Kimberly II reaches the maximum speed of 16.5 knots.

Designer Elisabetta Ruggiero, by the homonymous design studio, describes her as follows.

Kimberly II was born to satisfy the peculiar requirements of a family with a great tradition of “savoir vivre” and hospitality; the project was inspired by the Owner, who is fond of sea as only greeks can be, and the Owner’s wife, with her sober and refined elegance.
As ever when you speak about a yacht, the aesthetic aspects have to be integrated by the functional ones, in order to guarantee pleasure by using her and not a simple search for beauty. In deference to the saying according to which ancient greeks “built as though they had to live forever”, Kimberly II’s engineering design developed according to traditional guidelines by Studio Ruggiero and Mondomarine Shipyard; a structure studied and realized carefully, without exceeding in displacement and able to guarantee a maximum speed faster than 16 knots, without overworking the steadfast in effort CAT engines; the cruising speed of 15 knots is reached and maintained with absolute suppleness also by long cruising whereas, at the “economical” speed of 12 knots, the range is close to 4,500 miles.
To the displacement bottom, optimized by means of tank tests, are perfectly matched the twin Rolls Royce controllable pitch propellers, relatively uncommon for yachts with such dimensions but by now inalienable for large vessels because of their higher manoeuvrability qualities, working saving and comfort they guarantee; qualities that concurred to the awarding of Comfort Class by RINA to this yacht.
The external lines of Kimberly II, though conditioned by the now inalienable wide-body, respect shapes and proportions of a motoryacht able to guarantee an excellent sea-holding, and this means the diminishing towards the middle of the yacht of the superstructures matched to between-decks which, though offering generous internal spaces, hasn’t to compromise the stability of the yacht; the shape is harmonious and streamlined and, at the same time, “sturdy” and it’s characterized, in the wide-body area, by the two large oval windows of the Owner’s suite and, in the stern area, by the powers thought as stylized waves; a mix of bent and tight lines reinterpreting the classic little ship developing the concept of yacht/vessel peculiar to Studio Ruggiero.
The lay-out of internal areas is thought to allow the Owner’s, guests’ and crew’s free movement so that they can move without interferences; inside this lay-out there is an emergency exit scheme; and, always talking about security, aboard is installed an hi-fog fire-fighting device foreseeing the utilization of nebulised water when flames on board; this system, already present aboard large passenger ships and by this time not often used aboard a yacht, allows not to devastate the fittings in case of a simple fire beginning.
The interior lay-out includes the salon, the dining-room, the galley and the Owner’s suite on the main deck; a sitting-room on the upper deck, where are also located the Captain’s double cabin and those for further two crew members; four double cabins for guests on the lower deck, which forward accommodates the crew quarter too; and, finally, a large solarium, with bar and jacuzzi, spreading out the whole sun-deck.
The internal decor too looks like the traditional one for little ships but it was reinterpreted in an absolutely attentive way according to contemporary tendencies, as showed by upholsteries and some contemporary ornamental elements with high stylistic and qualitative level chosen in synergy with the la prestigious “Colefax & Fowler” of London.
The Owner’s suite is located in the fore wide-body area on the main deck and includes the gym, the lobby, the sleeping area and two large bathrooms, covered by white veined marble and connected by a large passing shower-way. The cabin and the gym are also and above all lightened by the light coming inside through the two large fore windows, expatiating not only in length but also in height; and the two side seating under the glass windows, characterizing the cabin, allow to have an impressive outlook onto the sea a few metres from the surface of the water.
Always on the main deck, proceeding astern, there is the dining-room and, finally, the large salon, whose bar counter is made precious by the fossils in the granite top; and only the two crystal-glass sliding doors, through which you can see the sea astern, help to remember at all times that this comfortable place is on a motoryacht underway or at anchor.
Getting back from the salon forward, on the left side is located the galley with its respective pantry, organized to be able to guarantee the maximum functionality; the elements making up these two rooms are in steel and Cherry wood and are equipped with a very reliable fitting out. From the galley branch off the elements connecting to the standing over wheelhouse and the crew quarter below, constituted by a dinette and three double cabins, all provided with bathroom.
The four large cabins for the guests are located in the central area on the lower deck: a double one astern; two other ones, twin-bedded and provided with a third pullman bunk, in the middle; and another double cabin, with a spacious lobby proceeding forward. All the cabins are fitted out according to the most classic nautical style, with boiserie in Mahogany, lighted by a delicate brightness, made precious by details in Mahogany Feather, Myrtle Root and Ebony profiles and by leather panelling; the bathrooms walls are covered by white marble while the floors and walls of showers are in mosaic with various colours; the peculiar manufacturing of marbles and mosaics make bathrooms like freshness and relax oasis.
The upper deck, with a very important internal breadth too, includes, in the stern area, a sitting-room with an home-theatre system and a pantry connected to the galley through a dumb waiter which reaches also the sun-deck, while the fore area, is engaged by the Captain’s cabin, located immediately behind the wheelhouse, and by the Chief Engineer’s one; a third cabin is reserved to the Housekeeper.
And finally the sun-deck, whose focal element is a large and fascinating jacuzzi, surrounded by sun-chairs, to which matches a perfectly circular bar, located in the deck middle and provided with comfortable little sofas astern; a very flexible area, you can enjoy by day after bathing and in the moonlight to have memorable evenings.
